Any vampire fan may groan what this title is obviously referencing to, which is fine by me, for I have no shame in being a highly cultured individual!
In case the title wasn't clear enough, this cue was originally intended for the irregular interviews hosted by the Lore By Night podcast team, ranging from fellow content creators/contemporaries to people who write the games (books and videogames), to other famous people within the Vampire: The Masquerade community.
As the music would underscoring more than one person, I believed that the music should be more like a vampiric soundscape, filled with melancholy and reflection, to keep on brand, whilst not being too distracting for the listeners of the podcast, which is why there are only two instruments present, synthesisers pads and improvised piano (which references various cues from the original soundtrack).
Further influence came from conversations with the Lore By Night team, who spoke of space within the World of Darkness lore called The Shroud, a plain where untroubled souls reside. In shorter words, it is a macabre purgatory.
I was shown artwork depicting it, and I was both moved and disturbed by the sights of images, imagining these ghosts (called Wraiths) watching us from beyond the veil, taking a step back as it were, to gaze the madness they 'escaped'. I tried to capture this same 'void' feeling with this piece.
