This piece was originally composed for sections of the "Lore By Night" podcast that discusses the lore of "Wraith: The Oblivion" splat within the World of Darkness

If Vampire: The Masquerade is Goth Punk, Wraith is Romantic Goth. Bleak but hopeful, light but dark, and passionate yet hollow. Such contrasting emotions were very difficult to capture in a piece of music that is meant to sit peacefully beneath the ramblings of an overly enthusiastic old lecturer.

The approach I opted for was a sparse orchestral arrangement, led by a solo viola that rocks beneath high strings sustaining two notes, and the occasional swell of the rest of the string section, like the tide of the shore, or the winds of the Tempest in the Underworld. It originally featured 2 female solo voices that would call and response with each other as the viola carried the main melody, but this element was removed as it got in the way of the rest of the arrangement, a decision I fully stand behind. Less is certainly more with this piece.

Like many pieces in the album, this one loop, the first ending on E minor, the second on E major. This mode mixture reflects the dealing nature of Wraiths. Both sadness and happiness, longing and not wanting to seek Transcendence.
