about

The Storyteller's Buyers Guide was episode 152 of the Lore By Night podcast. It is aimed at people running the Vampire: The Masquerade games (dubbed the Storyteller) to better know which books they could buy to improve their games. The Lore By Night team wanted to make it more of a jokey/entertaining episode and asked me to write a sleazy rendition of the Lore By Night theme for a money-grabbing version of the persona adopted by the Lore By Night team.

This sleazy sound was achieved with some "dirty" altered chords and having the melody play (mostly) on saxophones at their lowest registers, starting with the Baritone sax. When the piece modulates from C minor to Eb minor, the rhythm becomes a bit more energetic, which was meant to emulate the buzz of making the purchase you have saved up for, before coming crashing back down into C minor, representing the guilt of spending too much on books you would only ever use once or twice.

Whilst being a serious podcast, the "Lore By Night" team have never taken themselves so seriously that they manage to make fun of themselves and be a little silly at times, which has made working with them rather enjoyable.
